Robert Padgett (1933 - 2014)

WHITMAN, W.Va. — Robert Louis Padgett, 81, of Whitman, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014, at his residence.

Born January 31, 1933, in Newport News, Va., he was the son of the late Odell Henry and Shearll Powell Padgett. Robert was preceded in death by six brothers, Ralph Padgett, Jimmy Padgett, Norman Padgett, Jack Padgett, John Padgett, and James Padgett; and two sisters, JoAnne Padgett Bell and Eugina Larue Padgett.

Robert was a member of 53 years to Central United Baptist Church where he was a Sunday Superintendent and Boys' Jr. Class teacher. He attended West Virginia University and Marshall University. He was a Troop 63 Boy Scout Leader, member of the Gideon, Lions Club, President of the Little League, member of the 2nd division of Veterans of Foreign Wars, P.O.W. Purple Heart, Under Aged veterans, member of the National Republican Committee, and Logan County Health Board. Robert taught at Southern WV Community and Technical College. He was employed by Island Creek Mine where he worked as a Superintendent, President, and Manager at Odell Processing. Mr. Padgett also served in the United States Army.

Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 58 years, Mary Aileen White Padgett; a son, Robert Louis Padgett, Jr.; two daughters, Tamara Clarice Padgett Herbster and Marianne Padgett Scott; a brother, Donald Padgett; two sisters, Faye Padgett Sommerville and Margret Padgett Carter; seven grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the Central United Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Skeens and Rev. Glenn White officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call on the family from 11 a.m. until noon Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the church.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Hospice, Central United Baptist for all your kindness, the 911 ambulance service, and the doctors and nurses of LRMC.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations are made to the Central United Baptist Church at P.O. Box 1558, Logan, WV 25601.
