STONE BRANCH BOTTOM, W.Va. — Franklin "Guinea" Adkins, 83, of Stone Branch Bottom, departed this life Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Logan Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 24, 1931, at Big Creek, W.Va., a son of the late Allen and Agnes Adkins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Bonnie (Adams) Adkins; five brothers, Ned Adkins, Lester Adkins, Karma Adkins, Don Adkins, and Gordon Adkins and two sisters, Orpha Workman and Dicie Covert.
Guiena was a member of Harts Tabernacle at Harts, W.Va. He enjoyed coon hunting with his many friends and hunting buddies and loved spending time with his family and all of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren. Guinea was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA.
Those left to cherish his memory include seven daughters, Phyllis (Lambert) Vance, Teresa (Bobby) Sheppard and Christine (Matt) Sheppard, all of Chapmanville, Wilma Craddock of Foster, W.Va., Joann Adkins of Kermit, W.Va., Linda (Jeff) Engelking of Seymour, Ind., Elizabeth (Danny) Starr of Ohio, and; one son, Lester (Trish) Adkins of Chapmanville; one sister, Erssie Black of Ohio; one brother, Robert Adkins of Florida; sixteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Freeman Funeral Home with Kit Meade officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, W.Va.
Friends may call Tuesday, April 1, 2014, from 6-9 p.m., at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be family.
