David Gilpin

WHITMAN, W.Va. — David Lloyd Gilpin, 73, of Whitman, went home to be with the Lord Tues., July 8, 2014, at his residence.

Born Jan. 6, 1941, in Holden, he was a son of the late Lonnie and Faye Tabor Gilpin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Gilpin; four sisters, Mary Gilpin, Ora Moore, Effie Maynard, and Ramona Poetker, and one brother, Harry Gilpin.

David was a born again Christian who loved the Lord with all his heart. He was saved in 1975 and became a member of the Whitman Freewill Baptist Church in 1988. David was a singer, songwriter, and musician that traveled extensively throughout the tri-state area spreading the gospel of Jesus with his music ministry.

He was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War. David was a retired central purchasing agent with Excel Mine. He had a strong work ethic serving his company with more than twenty years of perfect attendance.

Dave never met a stranger and was loved by everyone that he came in contact with. He will be missed, but heaven is sweeter with him there.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Audrey Grimmett Gilpin; two daughters, Patty (Jay) Burlingame of Altoona, Pa., and Nikki (Michael) Robinette of Pecks Mill; one son, Dave "Dave Allen" (Ruth Ann) Gilpin of Teays Valley; two sisters, Rita Clay of Bellebrook, Ohio, and Jennie (Bill) Fluty of St. Paris, Ohio; two brothers, Lonnie Gilpin Jr. of Troy, Ohio, and James A. (Janice) Gilpin of Tallahassee, Fla.; three grandchildren, Christopher (Jessica) Burlingame, Andrew Burlingame, and Melia Faith Freeman.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Fri., July 11, at Whitman Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Alvis Porter Jr. and Rev. Bill Cresong officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Cresong, Andrew May, Jeff Amburgey, Pete Manuel, Jeremy Thompson, and Bill Wooten.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Adams, Larry Butcher, Mike Gearhart, Christian Porter, Cameron Porter and Kaleb Thompson.

Freeman Funeral Home of Chapmanville is in charge of arrangements.
