Bernie Ellis

CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Bernie Ellis, 86, of Chapmanville, departed this life Sat., July 19, 2014, at his residence.

Born April 1, 1928, in Logan County, he was a son of the late Millard and Bertha Adkins Ellis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Vesta "Peggy" Brown Ellis; six brothers, Edward Ellis, Drewey Ellis, Ermal Ellis, Howard Ellis, Fred Ellis and John B. Ellis; and two sisters, Dixie Ellis Martin and Lillian Ellis Osborne.

Bernie was in the U.S. Army Air Corp, attended the Rocky Hill Freewill Baptist Church and was a member of the Mason (Scottish Rites). He enjoyed hunting, gardening, and woodworking.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Debra Lynn Ellis; one daughter, Eileen (Ken) Peterman of Pataskala, Ohio; one son, Bernie D. (Gail) Ellis of Goodyear, Ariz.; one stepson, Douglas (Sherri) Lamb of Hunt; one stepdaughter, April (Shawn) Paynter of Bruno; one sister, Ersie Mangone of Palm Spring, Calif.; three brothers, Ernie Ellis of Chapmanville, Merl (Annie) Ellis of Monticello, Ind., and Millard "Bo" (Dorothy) Ellis of Mud Fork; sister-in-law, Anna Ellis of Mud Fork; six grandchildren, Chad Ellis of Nashville, Tn., Heather Ellis of Phoenix, Ariz., Tiffany Peterman and Dillion (Jenay) Peterman, both of Pataskala, and Megan Lamb and Maddison Lamb, both of Hunt; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Ellis of Pompano Beach, Fla., Ethan Ellis of Beaumont, Texas, and Talon Ellis and Corey Stewart, both of Pataskala, and three special nieces, Erna Akers, Sharon Faine and Sue Wells.

The family would life to thank Dignity Hospice for the care they gave Bernie.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wed., July 23, at Freeman Funeral Home with Bobby Adams and Glenn White officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Mullins, Clarence Browning and Chick Browning.

Freeman Funeral Home of Chapmanville is in charge of arrangements.
