MT. GAY, W.Va. — Mr. James W. Compton, 97, of Mt. Gay, was born November 11, 1915, in Logan County, a son of the late A. H. and Jane Trussee Compton. He departed this life Mon., Sept. 30, 2013, at Trinity Healthcare Services at Henlawson.
Mr. Compton was a retired coal miner, retiring from Chafin Coal Company and previously worked for Mt. Gay Coal Company. He was a member of the UMWA and West Logan Church of God.
Also preceding him in death was his wife, Pansy Adams Compton in 1998; son, Bob Compton; daughter-in-law, Judy Compton; great-granddaughter, Autumn Meadows; sisters, Alma Compton, Dortha Rowe, Francis Poole and Freda Cook, and brothers, Rev. W.H. Compton, Earl Compton and Jack Compton.
Survivors include a son, Bill Compton of Barboursville; daughter, Brenda (John) Barker of Garretts Fork, Chapmanville; his special companion, Pam Peyton; grandchildren, Sheila Compton, Bobby Compton Jr., Teresa (David) Armentrout, Tahnee (Scott) Mullins and Erica (Bobby) Cook; great-grandchildren, Britney, Whitney, Philip John, Adam and Robert; great-great-grandchildren, Landon, Blaine, Caden, Ethan and Bryson; daughter-in-law, Laverne Compton of Logan, and special caregivers, Connie, Geneva and Sherry.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thur., Oct. 3, at West Logan Church of God with Rev. Scotty Dingess and Rev. P.J. Tomblin officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Chapmanville is serving the Compton Family in handling the final arrangements for Mr. Compton.
