To all of you dear Devines ~ I cannot begin to convey my heartfelt sympathy to each & everyone of you. This is a precious loss, but with the love you all share with each other, Ed will never be forgotten. It seems like only yesterday, a group of us were hanging out by the Laurel Plains "solving the world's problems" in our little spectrum of our corner. God Bless you all. My heart aches for you, but with a collective amount of loving memories from so many people, Ed remains with all of us forever. Love & gentle hugs, Wendy (Felter) McVey

Dear Barbara, Daniel, Edward, Neil and Rose,
Our family is praying for you, and with you, at this difficult time. At the same time, I can't help but remember all the good times we all had at the Sweeney/Devine gatherings growing up. Ed was extremely proud of his family, and he loves you all very much. He reminded me recently that he and Barbara made their First Communion together. His legacy is his children, and his strong Faith in God. I hope these words help to comfort you as they have our family over the years:
"When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free.
Miss me a little-but not too long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that we onced shared
Miss me----but let me go.
When you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me----but let me go."
God Bless you all,
Kathleen Sweeney Ridings, Rick and Alyson
P.S. Ed, Aunt Mary will cut the crust off your toast in Heaven!!

The New York State Floodplain and Stormwater Managers Association want to let the Devine family know that Ed is in our thoughts and prayers. Ed was not only a valuble board member of the Association, but also a person who always tried to help improve our outreach efforts. In his memory, we have donated $100 to the Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties

Dear Barbara,
My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
Ed was a great friend, meeting him for the first time at Laurel Plains Elementary School; we struck up a friendship that continued through junior high and into high school. I do not remember the last time I saw Ed, maybe a weekend home from college, too many years but nothing but fond memories.

It is so so sad to think of one of the Devine cousins being gone. We all know how long Eddie was sick but it is still a shock in a way. We all had a tight bond, sort of a" cousins code" that went back to the days at Grandma Devine's house on St. Raymond's Ave in the Bronx.
Barbara, I'm so sorry for your loss. You know better than anyone that he was a great man and that he had a great life with you and your children.

This is a terrible loss for Barbara and all the family. Ed and his whole family have all been through a marathon of emotion and suffering over the past two years and have demonstrated a great strength of character. My wife Karen and I are very sorry for your loss. I will remember Ed’s humour and laugh forever and always associate it with the family parties in the Bronx, New City and Vernon NJ which is where I last saw him. He was full of good cheer and very proud to introduce his children to us and it is how I will remember him. Another Cousin, John Sweeney

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
