Benedetto Aventurato, age 82, a life long resident of West Haverstraw, NY passed away May 5, 2014. Born November 25, 1931 in West Haverstraw to Marzio and Maria Aventurato. Ben was a graduate of Haverstraw H.S. Class of 1950. A decorated Korean War Veteran he served at Pork Chop Hill with the 7th Infantry Div. 17th Regiment - Co. G., with an Honorable Discharge with the Rank of Sgt., recipient of Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense SVC Medal, Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal and Korean Presidential Unit Citation. He was retired from the Rockland County Sheriff's Dept., having served as Sr. Deputy, Civil Division. A member of Leo Laders Legion Post #130, Korean War Veteran's Assoc., a life member of VWF Post # 2803, Italian American Social Club of W. Haverstraw, NY, Honorary Life Member of the Haverstraw Elks BPOE #877, and also a member of the Rockland County Shields. Predeceased by his parents, Marzio and Maria Aventurato, brother Francis Aventurato, Step Mother Tindara Cosantino, his devoted wife Dorothy E. Aventurato and grandson Benedict "Benjie" Aventurato. Survived by his loving family Benedict Francis and Judy Aventurato, Michael and Laura Aventurato, Ann Marie and Thomas Curley, cherished grandchildren, Michelle Curley Moulton, Kimberly Anglin, Thomas Curley, Alexa and Michael Aventurato, Kevin Curley, Kellianne Curley. Also, four beloved great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and family members. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the George M. Holt Funeral Home. Ben's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 at St. Peter's Church, 115 Broadway, Haverstraw, NY. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ben Aventurato Memorial Scholarship Fund, 12 Kaemmerlin Ave., Garnerville, NY 10923.

My deep condolences to Ben's family.
Ben was our first insurance man when we came to Haverstraw from Italy about 59 years ago.
Ben was a wonderful gentle gentleman!God Bless him!
