She is survived by her older sister, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Ross) Krieger of Rock Hill, New York and her younger brother, John Ross of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was predeceased by her older sister Regina Cashman, her older brother Herbert Ross, and her beloved younger sister and lifelong companion, Theresa Ross. "Aunt" Peggy is survived by seven nieces and nephews who were blessed to know her and be part of her family: John Cashman (Bronx, NY), Robert Cashman and his wife Gail (Rockville, MD), Richard Krieger and his partner Tom Piernik (North Hills, CA), Joan Krieger and her husband Richard Rohan (Rock Hill, NY), Elizabeth Ross Spittler and her husband Jim (Colorado Springs, CO), Eileen Ross Arthur and her husband Bill (West Lafayette, IN), Janet Ross (Denver, CO) and David Ross (Houston, TX). In addition, she is survived by ten grand nieces and nephews, 8 great grand nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Peggy attended Saint Barnabas Grade School and graduated from Saint Barnabas High School in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx in 1939. At the height of the Great Depression, while a freshman in High School, she suffered the devastating loss of her beloved father to pneumonia. With the help and support of her mother and siblings she continued with her studies, graduated in 1939 and went on to attend Grace Institute Secretarial School (New York, NY). Upon graduation in 1941, she accepted a position as a secretary at Standard Oil of New Jersey (Esso now Exxon) in Rockefeller Center, New York. She commuted daily by train first from Woodlawn and later Bronxville to Grand Central Terminal in New York and then walked to Rockefeller Plaza. She quickly rose in the secretarial ranks to Executive Assistant to the President in charge of Esso Middle East Operations. She retired from Exxon in 1986 after 45 years of service. A retirement party in her honor was held at the Windows of the World Restaurant in the World Trade Center. She lived most of her adult life in Eastchester, New York with her mother and younger sister Theresa (1957 to 2012). She and her sister were devoted parishioners of the Immaculate Conception Church in Eastchester where they were Eucharistic Ministers and did volunteer work for the Church, for Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, NY and frequently helped out serving food at local homeless shelters. During her life, Peggy and her sister Theresa travelled extensively and loved to attend concerts and shows both at the Sarasota Van Wezel Performing Arts Center and on Broadway in New York. Most of all, however, they loved the numerous family gatherings we had throughout the year where it seemed the party never really got started until they arrived. Aunt Peggy will be sorely missed and long remembered by her family and friends for her deep and abiding faith in God, love of country, kindness, generosity, humility and good humor. A short private family memorial service was held in Rockville at the Pumphrey Funeral Home. Memorial Mass will be offered at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Eastchester, NY on Friday, May 1st at 10:30am and will be followed in May by a service and burial in the family plot at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
