Barney Lavelle, 85, an Ossining resident died peacefully at home on Friday 7/26/2013 surrounded by his loving family. Barney was born July 19, 1928 in NYC to Bernard and Ann (McAliney) Lavelle. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School and St. John's University. Barney loved God, his family and his country. He proudly served as a China Marine from 1946-1948.Barney had a successful career with Whitehall/Wyeth Pharmaceuticals from 1969-1995 as Director of Marketing and Sales Promotion and received the Wyeth Presidential Award. Barney and his wife Eileen lived and raised their 5 children in Yonkers, NY.
Barney was predeceased by Eileen in 1991, His Sister Mary Butler & brother James. He is survived by his wife of twelve years, MaryEllen, children Patricia Calderone, Brian Lavelle, Jay Lavelle, Dennis Lavelle and Marianne McInerney, their spouses, Michael Calderone, Linda Wagen, Laura Lavelle, Melanie Lavelle and Christopher McInerney. Also surviving are grandchildren, Christopher Lavelle, Joseph Calderone, Sean Lavelle, Eileen Calderone, Shannon Lavelle, Danny McInerney, Kayla Lavelle, Jimmy McInerney, Ryan Lavelle & Damon Lavelle. Brothers Peter Lavelle & Myles Lavelle and 22 nieces and nephews.
He was active in the community especially at St John the Baptist where he was President of the Holy Name Society as well as Director and Coach of the Children's Sports Program. Barney was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, China Marine Society, VFW
and the American Legion. Barney was a kind and generous man. He was a giant among men. His wonderful sense of humor and radiant smile would light up a room. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and loved listening to Irish music.
Friends and family may call on Sunday 7/28/2013 5pm-7pm or Monday 2pm-4pm & 7pm-9pm at Waterbury Kelly 1300 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday 7/30/2013 10am at St Theresa Church 1394 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff, NY. Internment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
