Slavin, Edwin Francis

Edwin Francis Slavin, a longtime resident of Tappan, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 16, 2014. He was born in the Bronx on March 30, 1929 to Michael and Lillian Slavin. Ed attended Sacred Heart Elementary and graduated LaSalle High School, both in the Bronx. During the Korean War, he served in the US Army in the 83rd Engineer Construction Battalion and was honorably discharged in 1952. After many years, Ed retired as a surveyor for the International Union of Operating Engineers of New York City. He was an active and involved parishioner of the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan for over 30 years as well as a member of the Piermont Senior Club.

Ed is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Edwin Jr., Victoria Panteleakis and her husband Steve, Dorothy Rousseau and her husband Bob, Raymond and his wife Jayne, and Elizabeth Margolis and her husband Eric; his grandchildren, Stephanie Panteleakis, Eric and Michael Margolis, Grace and Dean Slavin, and Faith, Emma and Bobby Rousseau; his three sisters, Gloria Clarke, Lillian Stern and her husband Harold and Joan Schweizer; his brother Joseph and his wife Veronica; and his brother-in-law, Charlie Ottino and sister-in-law, Pat Slavin.

Ed was predeceased by his twin brother, Michael and another brother, Harold, and his sister, Eileen Ottino.

He loved spending time with his grandkids, dancing, walking the Piermont Pier and fishing.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, 10am, at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with burial to follow at F.W. Loescher Veterans Cemetery in New Hempstead. Visiting hours will be Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan.
