McLeer, Eugene A.
Eugene A. McLeer, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on May 9, 2013. He was 82.
Eugene was born on October 22, 1930 in the Bronx to the late Edward and Catherine (Carroll) McLeer. He was a Detective for the New Rochelle Police Department for over 23 years where he was Past Vice President of the P.B.A. He served in the United States Navy
during the Korean War
. He was the Past Commander of the American Legion Post 8, Past Commander of Veterans of Foreign War # 439, Past Grand Knight and former District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus council 339, member of the UVMPA and served on the Citizens Advisory Board of the New Rochelle P.B.A. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church where he served on the Parish Council and was a Eucharistic Minister. He was an avid NY Mets fan and a passionate member of the Save the Armory Committee.
He was predeceased by his wife the former Emilia Cosentino whom he married on December 13, 1952. She died on December 19, 2002. He is survived by his three children, Douglas McLeer and his wife Nancy, Eugene J. McLeer and his wife Dianne and Susan McLeer; his three grandchildren Stephanie, Kelly and Sean; his great grandson, Jordan and his three sisters, Alice Welch, Geraldine Rizzo and Kathleen Dolan. He was predeceased by a sister, Virginia and a brother Philip. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Saturday and Sunday 2-4 &7-9 pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, Inc., 16 Shea Pl., New Rochelle. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday 10am at St. Joseph's Church, New Rochelle. Interment will follow at Beechwoods Cemetery.
