George H. Robinson Sr.

Robinson Sr., George H.

Mr. George H. Robinson Sr., 82, husband of Mrs. Olive Marie Robinson, Graniteville, SC, returned to his heavenly father on October 14, 2013. He is preceded in death by Janet S. Robinson, his wife of 13 years, his father, Howard H. Robinson, mother Pere A. Robinson, 2 sisters, Muriel Bradley and Anna Mae Carroll, and granddaughter Katherine Robinson.

Born in New Rochelle, NY, Mr. Robinson was a combat veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in Korea where he was wounded when a mortar shell exploded killing 2 soldiers and wounding Mr. Robinson and another soldier. His wounds led to his honorable discharge. In December 1950, Mr. Robinson was the first wounded Veteran to return to New Rochelle during the Korean war and was honored for his service and sacrifice by appearing in an article on the front page of the New Rochelle Standard Star. After briefly serving as a police officer he moved to California in 1954. He loved to travel and often crisscrossed the United States by car with his family, often stopping to live in different parts of the country. He became active in many areas of the communities in which he lived. Mr. Robinson played AA Baseball in California, managed little league teams, became engaged in town politics and was an advocate for children he met that needed a little extra help. He met many people along the way and always looked to find the best in them. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He had many stories to tell and loved to tell them with his own mixture of humor and irony. He would tell his children, and later his grandchildren, that they were able to overcome any kind of adversity, and that he knew that because he had overcome so much in his own life. During his long life he became a friend and confident to many. He enjoyed the latter part of his life spending time with his wife Marie, taking care of his grandchildren and riding his motorcycle. He will be missed by all who knew him.
