George I. Hanson(1927 - 2013)

George Ingvar Hanson, 86, died on April 14, 2013. He was born on January 29, 1927 to Ingeborg and Arvid Hanson. He was a veteran of World War II who served in the U.S. Navy. Following the war, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserves. George worked as a tugboat Captain in NY Harbor and the surrounding waters for 37 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 329 in Pearl River, NY. He was prominent in founding the Messiah Lutheran Church in Rutland, VT. For over 20 years, George was freemason and served as Master from 1972 to 1975 of the Manitou Lodge No. 106 in New York.

George was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years Sonja and his dear sister Grace. He is survived by his sons, George, Eugene, Scott; and daughter Lisa; 13 grandchildren, Casey, Kirstin, Eric, Melanie, Amanda, Heather, Scott, Shannon, Sean, Kristin, Brian, Michael, and Kevin; three great-grandchildren, Patrick Michael, Hanna Rose, and Harmony Grace; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation is Friday, April 19th, 2-4 and 7-9pm at Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan, NY. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 20th, 11am at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 171 Closter Dock Rd., Closter NJ 07624.
