George R. Cahill, a long time resident of Yorktown Heights, NY died peacefully at home on March 13, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. George was born to Margaret & Joseph F. Cahill in Newark, NJ and spent most of his youth growing up in the Highbridge section of the Bronx. He was the second of three children. George was predeceased by his older brother Frank and is survived by his sister-in-law Ann of San Jose, CA and younger sister Margaret (Mimi) Clarke and her husband Peter of Tiburon, CA. George proudly served in the United States Navy
. George married Regina H. Firehock on December 29, 1955 at the Sacred Heart Church in the Bronx. He earned his Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College, NY. He had a distinguished career with the New York City Police Department serving as a Lieutenant since 1972. He retired in 1995 after 35 years of service. George enjoyed the 18 years of retirement with his best friend and beloved wife Regina. They traveled the world together and spent much of their time visiting with family and friends. George was particularly fond of sharing his wit and wisdom with his children and grandchildren at the frequent family functions that a large family brings. George was a history buff, a car enthusiast, and enjoyed riding his motorcycle with family members whenever he could. George was a loving and generous soul with a terrific sense of humor and lived life to its fullest. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
George is survived by Regina, his wife of 57 years and love of his life, daughter Patricia McCullough and her husband James of Sandy Hook, CT., daughter Anne Johansen and her husband Richard of Beach Lake, PA, son Kenneth G. Cahill and his wife Sharon of Hopewell Jct., NY, son Kevin M. Cahill and his wife Pamela of Hebron, CT., daughter Regina C. Garrant and her husband John of Slingerlands, NY, son Joseph F. Cahill of Boulder, CO. George is also survived by 12 grandchildren; Kyle, Kerrie, Alyssa, Rebecca, Gregory and wife Allison, Paige, Samantha, Quinn, Cassidy, Allison, Lindsey & Ryan. He is also survived by two great grandchildren; Jack & Gray as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday March 17th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home located at 2104 Saw Mill River Road, Yorktown Hts., NY 10598. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday March 18th at 11:00 a.m. at the old stone church of Saint Patrick's located at 188 Church Place, Yorktown Hts., NY 10598.
