Thomas, Mrs. Jean G.

Mrs. Jean G. Thomas, formerly of Mt. Vernon, passed away peacefully on Jan. 11 in Humble, Texas. She was 86. Mrs. Thomas was born on Sept. 15, 1926 in Pittsburgh, PA to Hillard Guthrie and May Lee. At an early age, the family moved to Washington, DC where she was raised and educated. Jean married Francis Thomas and moved to NY. She worked as a nurse's aide at Mt. Vernon Hospital's maternity ward for over 30 years until her retirement in 1988. She also worked as the Head Registrar for the Mt. Vernon Neighborhood Health Center from its beginning in 1971 until her retirement in 1991 in which she then moved to Humble, Texas.

She is survived by four sons, Stanley and wife Caroline of the Bronx, Girard of Chino Hills, CA, Bruce and wife Maria of Chester, NY, and Detective Mark Thomas of Mt. Vernon; three sisters, Gloria Turner of Long Island, Barbara Norris of Washington, DC, and Betty Balthrop of Maryland; one brother, Stanley Guthrie of East Orange, NJ. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Jean is predeceased by her husband, Francis Thomas Sr.; three sons, Charles, Francis Jr., and Paul; two sisters, Elaine and Doris; and one brother, Hillard Jr.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Lee O. Wood Funeral Home. There will be a service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lee O. Wood Funeral Home.
