Joan M. Stone, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully with her husband and children by her side on Dec. 31, 2012.

Joan was the daughter of Fred and Rebecca Vacheron and grew up in Bayside, NY where she studied at Katherine Gibbs and was employed by the United Nations. In 1950 Joan was married to her husband Niels E. Stone, Jr.and moved to Armonk, NY and raised their five children. They retired to Marco Island where they resided for the past 24 years in the close knit community of Eagle Cay.

Joan is survived by her husband of 62 years, Niels Stone, Jr.; loving daughters, Janet LaChapelle (Roy), Nancy DiFazio (Mike), Jane Stone, and Mary Sniffen (Robert); grandchildren, Niels Stone, IV (Kim), Jeremy Stone (Elizabeth), Michael DiFazio, Jr., Matthew Stone, Emily LaChapelle, Lori DiFazio, Ryan Sniffen and Lucas Garcia; great-grandchildren, Niels, V, Konnor, Kiley, Cayla and Saige. Joan was preceded in death by her son Niels E. Stone, III; sister, Barbara Klippel and her granddaughter Kristen Stone.

Joan will be remembered for her welcoming smile and bright blue eyes. Her wit and sense of humor and calming sweet nature was enjoyed by all who met her. Joan will be sorely missed by her husband, family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Wed., January 2 from 3 - 6pm at Hodges-Josberger Funeral Home, Marco Island, FL. A mass of Christian Burial will be offered at San Marco Catholic Church on Thursday, Jan. 3 at 10 am. Interment to follow at Marco Island Cemetery.
