Cullen, Joseph P.

Joseph P. Cullen, a longtime resident of Mahopac, NY passed away on November 8, 2013 at the age of 89. He was born in the Bronx on November 17, 1923, the son of Joseph and Theresa Geelin Cullen.

Joe served in the US Army during WWII. He retired in 1981 from the Mahopac School District after 20 years of service; starting first as a bus driver/custodian and retiring as supervisor of buildings and grounds. He was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac where he served as an usher.

On September 11, 1948 he married Theresa Speckman at St. Jerome's Church in the Bronx. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Gary of Mahopac and Joseph (Jackie) of Deltona, FL, his daughter Barbara Coxen (John), 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Visiting will be held on Sunday from 1-4 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Church with interment to follow at Ballard-Barrett Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice of Westchester and Putnam or to the Veteran's organization of your choice.
