Mary Cibelli, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 17, at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation in Canaan, CT. Mary will be remembered as a gentle, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was born on July 17, 1925 in Tully, NY to Ada and Claude Clark. She was the 5th of 15 children and is survived by her brothers, Ronald Clark, Dick Clark, and Paul Clark and her sisters, Norma Rothery and Ruthanne Shaw. She was predeceased by Lola Davis, Doris Haynes, Fran Yurkanin, Virginia Vosburg, Betty Jane Clark, Bob Clark, Glen Clark, Donald Clark and Kenneth Clark. After high school, Mary worked for Colgate Palmolive and lived with her girlfriend Pat Korey in New Jersey. Soon, she met and married her husband, Albert Cibelli who predeceased her in 2011. Together they had 3 daughters, Nancy (Christopher Marothy) Barbara (Edward Murphy) and Lisa (Raymond Viscome). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Juliana and Liam Marothy. Over the years, Mary raised her family in the Bronx, NY, Yonkers, NY, Hartsdale, NY and retired with her husband in Goshen, CT where she lived for more than 20 years. While in Goshen, CT, she was active in the Garden Club and volunteered at the Torrington Soup Kitchen. Mary was a remarkable homemaker and cook, especially known for her homemade soups and pies. She was also an avid Scrabble and Mahjong player. Although Mary suffered for most of her life with Rheumatoid Arthritis she never complained. Instead, she enjoyed the company of her friends, family and made others feel comfortable in her home. The family would like to thank her caregivers at Geer Village Assisted Living and Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation in Canaan, CT, especially Jennifer King and Adrienne Blodgett.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at the First Congregational Church, 21 Torrington Road in Litchfield, CT at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the
