Mary passed away on February 19, 2013. Mary was born (Carmen Mary Gibson) in March 1921 in New Rochelle to Carmen Fernandez and Walter Lang Gibson. Beauty surrounded her all her life. She was the Peace May Queen of the class of 1943 from the College of New Rochelle. She had three loving brothers, Lang Gibson who died in World War II as a result of a test pilot accident, and Leonard who passed away 10 years ago and Peter Williams who lives in Peekskill. She married artist illustrator William "Bill" Gilmartin, Jr. in 1946. He was the love of her life. William and Mary were the owners of The Framing Gallery in Hawthorne, NY. They were rarely separated. He passed away in 2008. She raised three daughters Mary Lang (Farrell), Patricia (Henderson), and Judy (Wilsey). She had eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She will be best remembered as "Mrs. Gilmartin my kindergarten teacher". She was the director of Knollwood School for Children in Elmsford where she worked tirelessly to create a happy and enriching environment for pre-school and kindergarten children. She continued her teaching career in the White Plains School system. Hundreds of children were her students in the 25 years she taught at Ridgeway School, Mamaroneck Avenue School and finally the Post Road School. Her most impressive talent was her cooking. She believed that if you had a beautiful home and put good food on the table the family would always come home. She was right. In her final years, the family continued to come together on Wednesday nights for dinner. She died peacefully with her family by her side.
Visitation will be Thursday 4 to 8 PM. Mass of Christian burial will be Friday 10AM at St Bernard's Church with interment of Ashes to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
