Prevot, Mary
Mary Prevot, 86, of Brick, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at Burnt Tavern Rehabilitation, Brick. Mrs. Prevot was born in the Washington Heights section of New York City to the late Charles and Catherine McQuade. She married Charles Prevot in 1947, and moved to New City, Rockland County, NY in 1956. She served as Postmaster in Sloatsburg, NY before retiring. She had served as secretary of the Rockland & Orange Counties (NY) Postmasters Association and president and vice-president of the Rockland & Orange Counties Postal Supervisors Association. She had also served as president of the Women's Auxiliary of the New City, NY Pop Warner Football League Association. She was a member of St. Augustine's Church, New City, and served on the Parish Council, and was also a member of the American Legion Auviliary, both in New City and Brick, and the V.F.W. #8867 Auxiliary in Brick.
Mrs. Prevot enjoyed her retirement years as a Greenbriar resident, where she was a member of the Social Bridge Club, the Golf Club and the Bowling League. She was also a member and past vice-president of the Jersey Shore Irish American Society, and a member of the Women of Irish Heritage of the Jersey Shore, and the Women's Club of Brick Township.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Prevot was predeceased by her husband, Charles (1994); her daughter, Karen (1997); her brother, Bernard McQuade (WWII casualty, 1945); and her sister, Catherine Gioia (1961). She is survived by her children and grandchildren, Nancie Prevot of Beach Haven, (Doug, Dan and Kate), Charles Prevot of New City, NY, (Charles and Kim), Edward and Renee Prevot of New Milford, (Noelle, Shane and Ryanne), Mary and Jim Berrigan of Blauvelt, NY, (Kevin, Thomas and Sean) and Christopher Prevot of Jersey City. She is also survived by nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2013 at St. Martha's Church, Point Pleasant, followed by interment at Brig. General Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Prevot's memory may be made to Ronald McDonald House New York, 405 E. 73rd St., NY, NY 10021. I am so sorry to hear about Mary. She fought til the very end. She was a wonderful woman. I enjoyed getting to know her through the years she would come in to see me. She was so determined to live life to the fullest. She will be missed.
