Russo, Olerio "Larry"

Olerio "Larry" Russo passed away after a valiant battle with leukemia on November 7, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years old. Larry was born on August 17, 1926 in White Plains, New York to Olerio and Alvera Russo.

He was raised in White Plains and served in the U.S. Army Core of Engineers in World War II where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. His outfit was instrumental in reinforcing the Bridge of Remagen in Germany, which allowed allied forces to cross the Rhine River. He was wounded during this battle and received the Purple Heart.

Upon returning home, he married the love of his life, Theresa Carrera on June 20, 1948 at Mt. Carmel Church in White Plains. He was a self-employed Landscape designer who owned and operated LTR Nursery and Hartsdale Nursery on Central Avenue. His passion for his work was only surpassed by the love for his family. At Christmas time, a yearly tradition was his selling of Christmas Trees.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Theresa Russo, who currently resides in Briarcliff Manor, his beloved children Madeline Henry and her husband Gerald of Crestwood, Ralph Russo and his wife Kathy of Hartsdale, Joanne Keagle and her husband Ira of Hopewell Junction, Linda Camilli and her husband Bob of Briarcliff Manor, his dear grandchildren who were the pride and joy of his life, Jessica, Danielle, Angela, Gina, Bobby, Kevin, Erika, Kristen, Lisa, and Will, along with his great-grandchildren, Grace, Dylan, Mia, Ruby and Matthew. He is also survived by his three brothers, Tony, Rocco and Rudy.

He was predeceased by his brother Charlie along with his sisters Carmella, Mary, Laura and Pauline.

The family would like to extend deep appreciation to the nursing staff of the seventh floor at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York.

Visitation will be at Beecher Funeral Home, Inc., Pleasantville, New York, Friday November 9, 2012 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Hartsdale, New York on Saturday November 10, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in North White Plains, New York.
