Stanley W. Burchett, 91, passed away Friday, November 30, 2012. He was born December 11, 1920 in New York City to Harry and Belle Burchett, with one predeceased brother Larry. He had been a Virginia resident since 1992. A WW II veteran, he retired from the US Air Force
as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1972 after 32 years of service during which time he was awarded a Purple Heart
, five Air Medals and two Battle Stars. Upon retirement, he went to work as a civilian working in frozen foods, textiles, fine jewelry, retailing and publishing. He was an inventor with 2 International patents and was a pilot. Col. Burchett also enjoyed volunteering his time at the Hampton VA Medical Center and the Air Power Park.
Survivors include five daughters, Mary Lynn Darchun, Barbara Grosso, Emily Viola, Nina Colligan, and Christine Chiafalo; two sons, Russell Burchett and Gregory Burchett; twelve grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 11AM-1PM Thursday, December 6, 2012 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at The Chamberlin Hotel, Fort Monroe Thursday afternoon at 1:30.
Interment with Air Force honors at Arlington National Cemetery, will take place at a later date.
