Theodore (Ted) Voll

Theodore (Ted) Voll, age, 91, died August 1, 2013. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Mr. Voll came from a well established line of family bakers and the baking industry where he spent most of his career. He started out in a family owned and operated bakery in Prospect Park West, Brooklyn and then spent most of his career with the American Molasses/Sucrest Sugar Corp, whose most famous product included the Grandma's Molasses brand. He retired in 1982 as VP, of Sales. He also taught at a baking school in Baltimore for several years and was an active member of the American Baking Association.

"Ted" as he was known, served 3 years in the military in WW II, much of it overseas, and acted as an interpreter throughout Northern France, Germany, and Central Europe. He was decorated with a Purple Heart & Oak Leaf Cluster, the Good Conduct Medal, and the European African and Middle Eastern Service Medal. In 2001, he was honored as a recipient of the Special Congressional Recognition Award in Florida for his participation at the Battle of Normandy and the liberation of the region, of France and Europe.

In 1957, he moved to New City, New York with his family where he resided until retiring to Amelia Island, Florida. In recent years, he resided at the Esplanade Senior Assisted Living in Chestnut Ridge, New York.

An avid reader, Ted also enjoyed golf, scuba-diving and fishing. His children inherited his love of music and animals, having grown up with birds, dogs, turtles, rabbits, frogs, fish and the occasional stray. He was also know to befriend the neighborhood cats in Amelia Island, and was affectionately known to some as "the cat whisperer"!

He is predeceased by a son Teddy who died in 1960. His first wife, Catherine, died in 1965 and his second wife, Marilyn Noyes, died in 1998. Survivors include three children, Charlotte Voll Leniston of Marbella, Spain, Larraine Voll Morris, of Brookeville, MD, and Eugene Voll of West Nyack, New York.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, August 5, 2013 from 4 - 7 pm, and a blessing on Tuesday, August 6th at 10:00 a.m. at Sorce Funeral Home followed by interment at St. Anthony's Church Cemetery.
