Vincenzo 'Vincent' D'Albis, age 88, died November 17, 2013 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Yonkers, NY.
Vincent was born September 9, 1925 in Giovinazzo, Bari, Italy. He was a lifetime member of 'The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America' and a former elected official of his local.
Vincent was a former US Soccer Federation referee and rose to the ranks of Chief Assessor for Southern New York, State Director for Eastern New York and served on the Soccer Committee for the 1994 World Cup Games. He was named to the Sports Hall of Fame in 1991.
Vincent was the former president of the Italian National Club and was a member of the Congress of Italian-American Organizations. His love for Italy never died and led to his being conferred the rank of Cavaliere of the Italian Government in 1978.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Gina (DeRitis) D'Albis, his caring daughter Rosanne D'Albis, his son and daughter-in-law Donato and Jane D'Albis, his grandchildren Kathrine Rose D'Albis and Daniel Vincenzo D'Albis of Cheshire, CT and his cousins Celia Archer, Louise and Richard Holly and Mary Lou and Joseph Dimicco. Vincent was predeceased in death by his sister Raffaella Bavaro and beloved nephew Domenico Bavaro.
Calling hours will be at FLYNN MEMORIAL HOME, on South Broadway, on Wednesday from 4 pm to 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10 am, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
