William J. McEntire, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Sunday May26th, after a two year battle with brain cancer. He was 70 years of age. Bill was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a Military Police Officer. After the Army, Bill joined the New York City Police Department, he worked as an undercover detective in narcotics, an investigator in arson and explosion and he was one of eight original detectives selected for all 5 boroughs to head up the bias unit. After his retirement from the NYPD, he and his partner started and operated Streetwise Security, a security company on Wall Street, NYC. Bill then became the Deputy Police Commissioner in his hometown of Mount Vernon, a position that was close to his heart. Bill was a source of inspiration for courage, honesty and loyalty with a great zest for life. He was a member of the Elk's Lodge, American Legion and the NRA, a true Patriot. Bill will be forever missed and survived by his wife of 47 years, Lillyana; his daughters Kim and Kathleen and his three grandsons Kyle, Connor and Chase. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-9 pm at the funeral home. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Victory Church, Mt. Vernon.
