Schwenker OSF, Sister Ellen Francis (Agnes)

Sister Ellen Francis, OSF, (Agnes Schwenker), 90, died on November 7, 2011 at Sound Shore Hospital in New Rochelle. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 15, 1920 to Rudolph Schwenker, who was born in NYC, NY and her mother Helen Cassidy Schwenker who was born in NJ. She was baptized in St. James Pro Cathedral in Brooklyn. Sister Ellen Francis attended Bay Ridge High School in Brooklyn; Notre Dame Institute in Baltimore; Manhattan College where she received a B.A. and Fordham University Graduate School where she obtained an M.A. in School Administration and Supervision.

Sister Ellen Francis entered the Sisters of St. Francis on January 6, 1944. She was received into the congregation on July 14, 1944; made her first profession of vows on July 14, 1946 and pronounced her perpetual vows on July 14, 1949. She was an elementary school teacher and a principal in various schools in Westchester County. The family will receive friends at WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, Inc. on Wednesday November 9th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Church Thursday November 10th at 10 AM. The interment will follow at St. Charles Resurrection Cemetery in Farmingdale, LI. The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
