Donahue, Alfred J.

Alfred J. "Al" Donahue age 78 of Buchanan, NY passed away on September 20, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Donahue was born on January 8, 1936 in Peekskill, NY to John and Mary Bruno Donahue. He served honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam era. On April 25, 1959 he married Carolyn Gilbert at the Assumption Church in Peekskill. Al was a New York State Trooper for 29 years. He later entered local politics and was the Mayor of the Village of Buchanan for 12 years. Al was very active in community and civic affairs. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn Donahue of Buchanan and five children, Cynthia (Robert) Lynch, Michael Donahue, Mary (Kriss) Hammond, Timothy (Desiree) Donahue and Doreen (Brian) Sheridan and twenty grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Patrick Donahue, John (Loretta) Donohue and Larry (Carol) Donahue, brother-in-law, Vincent Sorano, as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sister, Alice Sorano, grandson, Tyler Hammond, sister-in-law, Linda Donahue and best buddy, Kenneth MacDonald. Visitation is Wednesday from 2pm to 8pm at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, Peekskill, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, 10am, Assumption Church, Peekskill. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Verplanck, NY. Donations can be sent to American Legion Post 274, PO Box 21, Peekskill, NY 10566 "Heroes to Hometown Program" or American Cancer Society (in memory of Alfred Donahue) Attn: Sam Sheridan, 43 Nagog Park, Ste. 110, Acton, MA 01720.

Sad to see the good ones go. Al was one of the best. I was privileged to know him through the grades at Assumption School and at PHS. He was always considerate and a gentleman.

Sad to hear off Al's passing. He was a great friend of my brother Charlie (Sonny) McCormack. They grew up and went through life together. Al made us all laugh in some very difficult times.

It is so sad to read of Al's passing. He was a faithful part of our Assumption class of 1950 and our PHS Class of 1953, always attending our reunions. We were proud of him and his accomplishments in life as well as his family. God bless you Al.
