Ann Henriques Obituary

Henriques, Ann H.

Ann H. Henriques of Nyack, NY died Saturday, March 17, 2012, in her home in Nyack after a 6 ½ year illness with ovarian cancer. She fought cancer with the same humor (yes, humor), grace, dignity and courage with which she lived.

Annie was born August 26, 1956 in St. Vincent's Hospital in New York, NY. She was predeceased by her parents, John T. Henriques, MD and Mary A. Henriques (nee Murphy).

Annie was a 1967 graduate of St. Augustine Grammar School in New City, NY and in 1970 she graduated from Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia, NY. In 1977, Annie was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree for English and History from the State University of New York College at Oswego. In 1980, she was awarded the Certificate for Graduate Social Service Studies, Certificate Program, Graduate School of Social Service, Fordham University, Tarrytown, New York.

Annie's long and successful career spanned many diverse fields including Human Resources Management, Sales Administration Management, Process Improvement Management, Regulatory Affairs, Marketing Management and Communications, Publications, Advertising and Promotions and Contract Manufacturing. She brought excellence to many companies including NYNEX (now Verizon), Pepsi Cola and most recently International Paper.

Annie fulfilled her entrepreneurial spirit as founder and proprietor of her own Graphic Design Company, Hummingbird Press.

She had many interests including music and photography, and unselfishly shared those passions with others.

She brought love, joy and happiness to all who knew her, and most especially to Kathy the love of her life, her wife of 28 years. She touched the lives of so many people with her warmth, generosity, sense of humor and incredibly infectious laugh. Always concerned about others before herself, she continued her caretaking of others up until the end.

Annie is survived by her favorite person, her beloved and loving wife Kathy O'Connell and her loving family, her sister Mary and her husband James Marsden, her brother Raymond and his wife Diana, her brother James and his wife Marleny, her mother-in-law Kathleen O'Connell, her sister-in-law Eileen and her husband Steve Ryan, her brother John and his wife Lana, and her brother Thomas.

Loving and devoted aunt she will be greatly missed by her adoring nieces and nephews: James, Catherine, Matthew, Megan, Sean, Alyssa, Joseph, Julia, JJ, Andrew, Alexandra and Tiffany. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc. in Nyack. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11 AM at St. Ann's RC Church in Nyack.

Donations may be made in her memory to: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Directed to Program: Ovarian Cancer - Research of Carol Aghajanian, MD, P.O. Box 27106, New York, NY 10087-7106. or Human Rights Campaign, 1640 Rhode Island Ave. NW, Washington, DC, 20036.

My heart goes out to you Kathy. I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Ann. I have been Ann's accountant for over 15 years and I enjoyed every conversation I have ever had with her. Her wonderful laugh and great personality always shined through. She handled her illness with such a good outlook and I always told everyone about her story and how inspirational she was. God Bless you Kathy and may you find comfort in knowing that you shared your life with a wonderful woman who loved you very much...Theresa Dantone(Essenfeld & CO CPAS, LLP)
