Anthony Bongo Sr. passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012. He was 82 years old. Anthony was born in Tuckahoe, NY to Antonio and Florence Bongo on January 20, 1930. He graduated from Eastchester High School as a baseball star and was drafted by the NY Baseball Giants. After high school he worked as a construction laborer and also played for the NY Giants farm teams on the east coast until the Korean War. He enlisted in the Air Force and rose to the rank of Sergeant and was decorated during his tenure. Upon returning from his service he joined his family who now resided in west New Rochelle. There he met his wife, Rose Ann Caiazzo. They were married on September 9, 1956. He then worked for various construction companies in Westchester, finally joining his sons in his last venture, PAB Contracting in New Rochelle. His success in business led him to his favorite pastime: helping others. He has been a staunch supporter of various organizations (and individuals) such as Make-A-Wish, The Danny Fund and The Boys' and Girls' Club. His generosity has been acknowledged by local organizations such as the Casa Calabria Society, The Boys' and Girls Club and the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence. Anthony did not enjoy the spotlight, he just loved to give.
Anthony is survived by his wife, Rose Anne; his sons, Anthony Bongo and his wife Patricia and Patrick Bongo and his wife Mary Bongo; his grandchildren, Anthony and Stephanie Bongo, James and Nilda Bongo, William Bongo, Mary Rose Bongo and Elizabeth Bongo, and his great-granddaughter, Leila Christine Bongo. Donations can be made the Make-A-Wish foundation in his name.
Visiting will be Wednesday 5-9pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc. 16 Shea Pl. New Rochelle, NY. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday 11:00 AM at St Joseph Church. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
