AQUILA KOENIG Obituary

Aquila Koenig, a long-time Port Chester and Rye resident, died July 24 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born September 6, 1920 in New York City, she was the daughter of Marion Wilson Connolly and Richard J. Connolly of Port Chester. Her father was for many years treasurer of the Village of Port Chester. She attended Resurrection School in Rye and graduated from Port Chester High School as valedictorian of her senior class. She later attended the College of New Rochelle. During WWII, she was active in the USO and other efforts on the home front. Following the war, she worked at True Confessions magazine and Abbott Kimball advertising, both in New York City. She married Julian Koenig of NYC in 1951. The couple at first lived in the city, later moving to both Westchester and Fairfield Counties, where they had two children together. Mr. Koenig later became President of Papert, Koenig, Lois, the well-known New York advertising agency. The marriage ended in divorce. While living in Rye, she worked as a travel agent in White Plains for many years and traveled extensively herself. A lover of the Southwest and the outdoors, she moved to Albuquerque in 1978 and became active in many environmental and political causes effecting the rapidly growing area. She struggled with Parkinson's disease in later years, which somewhat curtailed her travels and outdoor pursuits. She is survived by her daughter, Pauline Porter Koenig of Corrales, NM and her son, John Koenig of Oceanport NJ, along with her son-in-law, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren. Services are scheduled at 11 AM, Thursday, August 16, at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Port Chester. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's' research (www.michaeljfox.org).
