Beatrice E. Konnerth

AGE: 89 • Peekskill

Beatrice E. Konnerth, a lifelong resident of Peekskill, N.Y., died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family and friends on Feb. 16, 2014. She was 89. She was born Dec. 8, 1924, in Peekskill to Carlton Briggs Scofield and Beatrice Pierce Scofield. She graduated from Peekskill High School in 1942 and graduated from the NYU School of Education in 1946.

She was a kindergarten teacher for the Hendrick Hudson Central School District for more than 35 years, retiring in 1982. Her mother was a teacher in the Peekskill City School District for more than 46 years. Her father was a former Peekskill city historian and author.

She was a member of the New York State United Teachers Union, a life member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association and served for a number of years on the Hendrick Hudson Central School District's executive committee. She served on the Bicentennial Committee for the Frank G. Lindsey Elementary School. She attended the United Methodist Church of Peekskill and was a member of the Van Cortlandtville Historical Society

She is survived by her daughter, Carol A. Reif, of Peekskill, several nieces and cousins, and their children. She was predeceased by her husband, Milton J. Konnerth, and her former husband, Robert. W. Reif. Also surviving are Milton's daughter, two sons and several grandchildren.

Visitation is today, Tuesday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, Peekskill. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Cortlandt.
