Donald "Coach" Daniels Sr. of Thiells, New York died Friday March 8, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was 86. Donald was born August 22, 1927 in Athens Pa. to Jacob and Charlotte Daniels. He graduated from Athens High School and later obtained his bachelors from East Stroudsburg College. Donald served in the United States Army and began teaching at Hughesville High School from 1953 to 1961. He then taught gym at North Rockland High School from 1961 to 1987. During that time he was the Varsity Wrestling Coach and was the announcer for the football games. When school was on summer break Coach worked for the Pallisades Interstate Park at the Day Camps. Coach was inducted into the Hughesville Sports Hall of Fame and the North Rockland Sports Hall of Fame for Coaching. Coach was a main stay at Sparky's Diner for many years.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Constance "Connie", his daughters Mary and Sam D'Auria, Sally Daniels, Sue and Rich Bosco, his sons Jake and his wife Angelynn and his son David; his daughter, Norma. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Coach's visiting hours will be Sunday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm and Monday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, GARNERVILLE. His funeral Service will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 am in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor John Havrilla officiating. Burial and military honors will follow in Mt. Repose Cemetery.
