Edward Bertill Lundgren Sr. of Congers, age 83, passed away in the presence of his family on April 21, 2014 at the Joe Raso Hospice Residence.
Edward was born in Upper Nyack, NY. He was the son of Almer and Edith Lundgren, who had emigrated from Sweden. He is survived by his wife Patricia, his son Edward and wife Donna, grandchildren Jamie and Kyle, his daughter Lisa and husband Edward Mooney, his step-son James Robinson and wife Antonia and by his sisters Patricia Brooks and June Yeck. He was loved and admired by many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Edward dearly loved his family and was proud of his children and grandchildren.
Edward proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict aboard the destroyers USS O'Hare and USS Stockham.
He was a dedicated employee of the Clarkstown Highway Dept. and retired from there after 43 years.
Eddie was a life-long Rocklander and never ventured too far from the Hudson River near where he was raised. He enjoyed boating and fishing there and passed many enjoyable hours with his friends at Rockland Bergen Boat Club. He also enjoyed trips to Montauk Point, NY which was a special place to him. It was where he and his wife, Patty, spent vacations and where he returned year after year to enjoy fishing trips with dear friends. In his later years he became an avid reader and loved learning about the birds, animals and natural world around him. Ed was never to be interrupted during his favorite television show, Jeopardy.
He was preceded in death but is now reunited with his parents, brothers and sisters Waldgard, Harry, Edith, Aina, Hilding and Svea.
Ed was a quiet, kind man who will be dearly missed by his family and everyone that knew him.
Family will receive visitors at Hannemann Funeral Home in Nyack, NY on Thursday, April 24 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10am. Interment will take place at a later date at Germonds Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edward's name to DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Charitable Service Trust or United Hospice of Rockland.
