Afante, Efren Taburnal, 83. 1199SEIU Retiree. The Afante family is deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Efren T. Afante on December 5, 2012 (formerly of Blauvelt, NY and Rio Rancho, NM) of Buhi, Camarines Sur, Philippines. Interment occurred on December 14, 2012 at Buhi Catholic Cemetery in San Pascual, Philippines. A loving husband of 45 years to Josefina Sepagan Afante of Nabua, Philippines, cherished father to Efren John Afante and his wife Maurisa, of Altus, OK, Christina Afante of Boston, MA, doting grandfather to Luis Afante of Boston, MA, and Jayce Efren Afante of Moore, OK, dear brother to Anita Afante (formerly of New York, NY) and Julia Afante Estanislao of Buhi, Philippines, beloved cousin and uncle to many, loyal friend and philanthropist. Mr. Afante was a contributor to Buhionline.com, member of the civic organizations Katzenjammers (KJS), the Knights of Rizal and Sponsor of the Ezer Foundation Performing Arts and Orchestra. Prior to establishing the non-profit radio station Our Lady's Foundation, Inc. DWEA 97.7 FM in Buhi, he was employed at Columbia University for 25 years. He enjoyed his retirement playing the double bass and serving integral roles within the Filipino American communities in NY and NM. He also volunteered his time working with youth groups and on environmental and social justice causes.
