Henry K.W. Austin III passed away peacefully on April 18 in Whiting, NJ. He was 86 years old.
Born and raised in the Bronx, NY, he was the son of Josephine Foley of the Bronx, and Henry K.W. Austin II, who grew up in Horseheads, NY. He graduated from Mount Saint Michael Academy, and attended Fordham University.
He served in the U.S. Navy in 1945-1946, stationed in Gulfport, Louisiana on the USS Herbert Jones.
In 1959 he married Mary Elizabeth Stanton of Cleveland, Ohio. They lived in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan until they bought a home and moved to Pearl River, NY in 1960. Together they had three children; Kathryn Michelle Austin (Masters), David Fredrick Austin, and Lisa Jeanette Austin (Mueller). Sadly, Mary predeceased him in 1989. In 1994 he married Jane Ling Penniston, and they shared many happy years together in Pearl River. In 2011 they moved to Whiting, NJ.
He will be remembered as a gentle man with a light sense of humor. He was an avid reader and swimmer throughout his life. He worked for many years for the State of New York, initially as a Court Officer and later as a Court Clerk.
Henry is survived by his wife, children, son-in-law Werner Mueller, and grandchildren Wesley Austin Masters, David Rafael Masters, and Claire Mary Masters. He is also survived by his sister Mary Austin Crowe of Ridgefield, CT, her husband Bernard, and many nieces and nephews, as well as many members of Jane's warm and loving family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Monday at St. Aedan's R.C.Church, Pearl River. Visiting is Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc.
