Joseph "Spanky" Caruso of Fishkill passed away on Monday, October 13, 2013 at the age of 91.
Joseph was born on August 12, 1922 in Yonkers, NY to the late Almerindo and Isabella Caruso.
He graduated from Saunders High School. Joe was a Sergeant in the United States Army, serving in WWII with the 301st Infantry, 94th Division. He was decorated with the Bronze Star and awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, the American Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Joe retired in 1988 after 25 years of dedicated service from the Yonkers School System where he was an assistant head custodian for Saunders High School where he was affectionately known as "Spanky".
He is survived by two brothers Neil of Yonkers, NY and Almerindo of North Fort Myers, FL; six children Ann Marie, Joseph Jr. and his wife Deborah, Richard and his wife Cynthia, Patricia and her husband Jack; two step children, Thomas and Lillian; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his wives Juliet Caruso, and Anna Caruso, brother Enrico Caruso and son-in-law Clem Sell and granddaughter Tracy Myers.
Friends may call on Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home, 1028 Main St., Fishkill. A Funeral Service will be held at 8pm on Thursday with military honors to follow. Interment will be private.
