Joseph V. Colello, 90, died Nov. 17, 2012.
He was born in the East Harlem section of New York City and lived in Stuart for 15 years, coming from Rockland County, NY.
He was a WWII US Navy veteran, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a founding member of Raymond W. DeMeola Post 1615, VFW. He was a 4th degree life member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Cardinal Cook's Committee on Italian Migration and past commander of the St. Lucy Post of the Catholic War Veterans. He was also a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society.
He was a member of St. Catharine's Church in Blauvelt, NY before coming to St. Andrew Church in Stuart, FL.
He was the founding member of the Rockland Lodge, Order Sons of Italy and served as its NY State and National Cooley's Anemia Chairman.
He was a retired Certified Safety Professional and served fourteen years as Supervisor of the Town of Orangetown in Rockland County, NY.
Survivors include his daughter, Melinda Mace of Stuart, three grandchildren, David, Bonnie, and Francine; two great-grandchildren, Siena and Lyla; one sister, Angela Dellorco of Stuart, and his companion, Margret Wassermann of Stuart.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Salerno Colello.
A Mass will be held Saturday Dec. 8, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Catharine's Of Alexandria Church, 523 Western Highway, Blauvelt, NY.
Interment will be in Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY.
