Marion K. Abbey, 91, of East Brewster, MA passed away peacefully on November 15, 2011 at Liberty Commons in Chatham, MA. Born on November 18, 1919, in Katonah, NY, Marion was one of five children born to Alice and Elliott Kellogg. The Kelloggs were long-time owners of Kelloggs and Lawrence hardware store, also in Katonah. Marion graduated from Katonah High School and Eastman Business School, going to work at the Bowery Savings Bank in New York City. It was there that she met her husband Frank, and they were married on Valentine's Day, 1942. Marion was a devoted wife and mother to three boys, Dennis of Charlotte, N.C., Robert of Gardiner, ME and John (deceased). After leaving her banking position in New York City, she worked in a local medical office and later for an architect. She was a Cub Scout leader and an active member of the Katonah Methodist Church. She remained close to her extended family and her own siblings - Don, Dick, Margaret and Janice (of Brewster, MA).
In the late 1960s, the Abbeys purchased Atlantic Cottage in East Brewster on Cape Cod. Upon her husband's retirement, Marion and Frank moved to Brewster and built a year-round home. Here they entertained their children, grandchildren, grand nieces and nephews, and great grandchildren. Marion is survived by four grandchildren, Emily Abbey of New Haven, Ct., Bonnie Nguyen of Dedham, MA, Gretchen Biedrzycki of Charlotte, N.C. and Gregory Abbey of New York City. In addition she has six great grandchildren. She and her husband were long time members of the Orleans Methodist Church.
