Mrs. Ruth Klink Dougher passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at St. Peter's Hospice in Albany, NY, after a brief illness. She was 77.
Ruth was born in Buffalo, NY, May 19, 1935, daughter of Walter and Gladys Klink. She grew-up in Suffern NY attended Suffern High School graduating in 1953 as Salutatorian of her class. She met her husband Richard A. Dougher while they were both working for the Erie Railroad. She resided in Suffern until 2005 when she moved to Ballston Spa, NY.
She attended Pembroke, now Brown University and then took a break from her education to raise a family. She was employed at Rockland County ARC helping to develop their Workshop Program. During that time Ruth completed her education at St. Thomas Aquinas College at night graduating summa cum laude. Always active in local politics she ran for and was elected Trustee of the Village of Suffern becoming the first woman to hold that office. Later she worked as a Tax Preparer for H&R Block.
Ruth was an avid reader, lover of music and she had a gift for turning plain yarn into works of art. As a member of several knitting groups including the interdenominational Prayer Shawl Ministry at Bethesda Episcopal Church, where she worshiped. Ruth's knitting creations were admired and treasured by all. Knitting gave her hours of enjoyment and she developed many close friendships with wonderful women in both Rockland and Saratoga Springs Counties.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Gladys and her husband, Richard. Surviving her are her sisters, Marie Van Schaik of Greenville PA and Jeanne Klink of Nashua, NH; her children, Jane (Don) Hughes of Saratoga Springs, Jennifer McCracken of Batavia, NY, Michael (Karen) Dougher of Tuxedo, NY, and Timothy Dougher of New City, NY and her grandchildren Phillip Dougher of Virginia Beach, VA, Amethyst McCracken of Batavia NY, Mitchell, Aidan, Claire, and Paige Dougher of Tuxedo, NY.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8pm Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 at William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10am Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at Bethesda Episcopal Church, Washington Ave, Saratoga Springs. Internment of the remains will be at a later date at Grace Episcopal Church in Nyack NY where her husband rests.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of St. Peter's Community Hospice.
