Sweeney Jr., William T.
The Guest Book is expired.
William "Bill" T. Sweeney Jr. was born February 19, 1944, to Mary Rita Finley and William T. Sweeney Sr. of Yonkers, NY. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1961 and proudly served his country in Vietnam. He continued on Active Reserve as an instructor on Paris Island and was discharged, with honors, in 1967. During his time with the Marines, Bill became a rifle sharpshooter, a pistol expert, received a Good Conduct Medal with a Meritorious Mast in 1965, and held various records, representing the Marines in power-lifting.
Bill was a member of the Yonkers Local 543 and then the Local 21 Plumbers and Steamfitters until he retired in 2002 and relocated to Clearwater, FL to care for his mother who passed away in August of 2010. He was an avid boxing fan, a fire which was ignited as he watched his father, who was a well-known local Yonkers boxer.
Bill passed away on June 22, 2013 and was predeceased by two sisters, Alice Sweeney Foley of Hartsdale, and Jean Sweeney Hornyack of Yonkers, and a brother, Michael J. Sweeney of Stamford, Conn. He is survived by a brother, David Wallwork of Virginia, a son, Michael, daughter-in-law Meghan, and three granddaughters, Olivia, Madison, and Devin. Bill will be missed most dearly.
A memorial service will be held 4-8 pm Tuesday, July 2 at Flynn Memorial Home, South Broadway, Yonkers.
