Rose Karagozian died peacefully on November 27, 2012, surrounded by loved ones. Born on May 20, 1913, she was 99 6/12. She died as she lived, with grace, dignity, humor and no regrets. Rose and her husband, Simon (1908-1999), were the founders of Jaymark Jewelers in Cold Spring, NY. Now in its fourth generation, the family business is being carried forward by two of Rose and Simon's great-grandchildren.
Rose lived in Croton for almost 60 years, her side door open and her teapot always ready for friends, family and neighbors. Everyone touched by Rose, no matter how briefly, will carry that gift with them always.
In addition to her husband, Rose was predeceased by two sisters and one nephew. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and James Matero; by her grandson and granddaughter-in-law, James and Melanie Matero, grandson Joseph Matero, and, by grace, Frank and Jane Hallock; by her great-grandchildren Kristy Matero and Justin Titley, Katie (Matero) and Ryan Szirmay, James Matero, Alexander Matero, Joseph, Chelsea and Jack Matero, and, by grace, Emily and Veronica Hallock; and by her niece and nephew-in-law, Shirlee and William Purcell. She is also survived by many kind, caring, loving friends and neighbors.
Rose was laid to rest in Bethel Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Croton Free Library.
