Oxer, George P.

George G. Oxer, 95, a resident of Greenwich, Ct. and formerly of Port Chester, NY died February 4, 2014. He was born October 10, 1918 in Greenwich to the late William and Sarah Russell Oxer. Mr. Oxer was raised and educated in Greenwich graduating from Greenwich High School in 1937. He served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945 as a gunner in the Atlantic and obtained the rank of Coxswain. He was married April 1, 1944 to Rita Nethercott at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Port Chester. Mrs. Oxer died November 6, 2004. Mr. Oxer retired from the Electrolux Company in Old Greenwich as a supervisor of production control. He was a parishioner of the Sacred Heart Church in Greenwich, Ct and was a 67 year member and past Captain of the Washington Park Engine & Hose Company #4 of the Port Chester Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his sons, Robert G. Oxer and wife Pati of Darien, Ct., William P. Oxer and wife Christina of Greenwich, Ct. and George "Rusty" Oxer and wife Barbara of Cos Cob, Ct. 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Besides his wife he was predeceased by his brothers Lester and William Oxer and sisters Doris Staby, Grace Basso, Helen Frey and Lillian Cameron. Visitation will be 4-8PM on Thursday February 6, 2014 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10AM on Friday February 7, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church Henry St. Greenwich, Ct.. Interment to follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery Greenwich, Ct. Memorial donations in memory of Mr. Oxer may be to the Washington Park Engine & Hose Co. #4, 464 Westchester Ave Port Chester, NY 10573
