Lyons, Michael J.

Michael J. Lyons, of New City, NY, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the age of 80. Mike was born on May 24, 1933 in New York to Michael and Anne (Campbell) Lyons. For 55 years he was the loving husband to Sally, who predeceased him on February 10, 2014.

Mike graduated from Power Memorial High School and was very proud of his submarine service on the USS Burrfish during the Korean War, his long career at AT&T and his time working at ARC of Rockland County. He was a Past President and Life Member of the New City Fire Department, a member of the Rockland County Fire Police, a St. Augustine's Eucharistic minister and member of their Holy Name Society, a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus-McCloskey Council 4565 New City, a member of the William E. DeBevoise Jr. American Legion Post 1682 and a former member of the Rockland County Ancient Order of Hibernians Memorial Pipe Band.

Mike enjoyed golfing and spending time with Sally attending their grandchildren's many activities.

He is survived by his children, Mary Ann Viebrock (Art), Michael (Maureen), Kevin (Sheila) and Robert (Tara), his 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be on Friday, February 21 from 2 - 4 pm & 7 - 9 pm at the Joseph W. Sorce F. H. Inc. where Knights of Columbus Services will be at 7:30pm, followed by Firematic Services at 8pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 22 at St. Augustine's Church, 114 S. Main Street, New City, NY. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorn, NY.

In Lieu of flowers, donations in Mike's name can be made to the New City Fire Engine Co. #1, 15 Maple Ave. New City, NY 10956.
