John Scheib Obituary
John Scheib

AGE: 94 • Elmsford

John Scheib, 94, of Elmsford, NY, passed away on February 13, 2014, in Ossining, NY. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, John was devoted to his family. In his daily life he modeled loyalty, honesty, generosity, and kindness, and inculcated those values in his children. John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Matilda Scheib; his three children, Elaine Mann (Benjamin), John Philip Scheib, and Paul Scheib (Karen); his five grandchildren, Peter Mann (Marissa Kunz), Melissa Mann (David Rachlin), Eric Scheib, Ryan Scheib, and Caroline Scheib; and one great-grandchild, Adelaide Rachlin. His sister, Lillian Malloy, and his niece, Kathleen Malloy Stewart, predeceased him.

Born on April 4, 1919, in New York City, to John and Bertha Scheib, John was the younger of two children, and the first college graduate in his family. After earning a degree in electrical engineering from City College of New York, John was employed as an engineer and manager for 41 years at Ward Leonard Electric Company.

John valued education highly, and served as an elected member of the Elmsford School Board. He was an active member of St. Joseph of Arimathea Episcopal Church, serving as treasurer for seven years, and a member of its "sandwich brigade," providing lunches for children residing in homeless shelters. An avid Yankees fan, John loved baseball, traveling with his wife to many countries, enjoying cruises with friends, and woodworking.

A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph of Arimathea Church, 2172 Saw Mill River Road (Route 9A), White Plains, NY 10607, on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 11 A.M., with a reception at the Church following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in his memory to St. Joseph of Arimathea Church,
