Karatina Euphrosia Kurilla

Karatina Euphrosia Kurilla passed away on February 21, 2014 at Prescott House in North Andover, Massachusetts. Karrie/Karrots (as she was known by her family/friends) was born in Yonkers, NY December 15, 1927 to John and Euphrosia (Obuch) Shutovech. She attended Yonkers public schools and graduated from Commerce High School in 1945 where she was a member of the Arista Society. She also attended Hunter College.

Karrie was employed as secretary to the vice president of Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City, next she became secretary for St. Michael's School and then Lawrence Hospital in the Infection Control department.

She received a parish volunteer award from the Catholic Youth Organization Archdiocese of New York, along with her husband Walter, for Outstanding Service to a Parish Youth Program. This was presented at St. Patrick's Cathedral by Cardinal Cooke. Karrie oversaw the twirlers and cheerleaders who participated in various CYO activities.

She was a lifetime member of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church where she sang in the choir, and was on the CYO bowling team, St. Michael's PTA, and Golden Agers Club.

Karrie married Walter Kurilla on May 22, 1954 and they were blessed to have shared 52 years together until his passing on June 2, 2006.

She enjoyed doing puzzles, crosswords, crewel, embroidery, knitting, listening to classical music and watching movies.

Karrie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Karatina Kehoe (Gerard Kehoe), and Barbara Mahon (Frank Mahon); two grandsons, Kyle Kehoe and Colin Kehoe and a granddaughter, Anastasia Mahon. A sister, Barbara Kocur (William Kocur); nieces, Joyce Turner (Marc Turner) and Jacqueline Babyiak (Stephen Babyiak); grandniece, Deanna Turner and grandnephew, Sammy Babyiak.

She is also survived by a brother-in-law, John Kurilla; nephews, Peter Kurilla Jr., John Kurilla Jr., and Richard Kurilla (Cathy Nienstedt); niece, Anne Marie DiMondo (James DiMondo); grandnephew, Thomas Kurilla and grandniece, Victoria Kurilla.

Viewing will take place at Whalen and Ball Funeral Home on Thursday from 4pm-8pm with Parastas at 7:30pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church on Friday at 10am with internment to follow at Oakland Cemetery.
