John M. Burke of Sloatsburg, NY died peacefully at home on April 1, 2014 at the age of 83. He was born in New York City and was a graduate of Incarnation School and Power Memorial Academy. John proudly served his country in the Korean War and provided 30 years of service to the NYC Police Department and retired as a Sergeant in 1986. John was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid Notre Dame and NY Giants fan and an active member of the Seniors of Sloatsburg and Hillburn.

John is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Agnes, his brother Father Thomas Burke M.M. and his sister Beatrice Tobin.

John is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary, his five children John (Brandy Post) of Sloatsburg, NY, Karen McCrudden (Mike) of Louisville, CO, Daniel of Suffern, NY, James of Harriman, NY and Patricia Bishop (Ronald) of Tuxedo, NY , his grandchildren Sean, Robert, Kaityln , Michael and Ronald and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to United Hospice of Rockland.

Visiting hours will be held at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY 10901 from to 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. on April 4, 2014. A funeral mass celebrating John's life and will be held at St. Joan of Arc Church, 52 Eagle Valley Road, Sloatsburg, NY at 10:30 a.m. on April 5, 2014. Interment will follow at the Cemetery of the Ascension, Monsey, NY.
