AGE: 90 • formerly of Port Chester
Jadwiga Lipski passed away on Sunday, July 13th at the age of 90. Jadwiga was born in Poland in 1924. After the German and Red armies invaded Poland in 1939, she and her family were captured and sent to a Soviet work camp in Siberia. The family escaped through Kazakhstan to the Middle East. Jadwiga eventually enlisted in the Polish Army while her younger siblings and mother continued as Polish refugees into South Rhodesia under British protection. During her military service Jadwiga most notably helped support the II Polish Corps effort during the Monte Casino battles in Italy in 1944. After the war the surviving family members reunited and settled in England. While there Jadwiga met and married Janek Lipski. The family then immigrated to the United States and settled in Port Chester, New York. Jadwiga spent many years there and she was a devout member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. She worked at Alexander's in White Plains, where she enjoyed her time in the fine jewelry department. After her husband's death in 1977 she continued to live in Port Chester until moving to enjoy retirement in Arizona with her sister Wanda. Jadwiga had no children of her own, but she is survived by her niece, Teressa Kopp of Chandler, AZ; her nephew, Edward Kwiatkowski of New Canaan, CT; her grandniece, Stephanie Kwiatkowski of Stamford, CT; and her grandnephew, Brendan Kwiatkowski of New Canaan, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30AM on Tuesday July 22, 2014 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 229 Willett Ave, Port Chester, NY. Interment to follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Rye Brook, NY. There will be no visitation.
