Kramer, Sol

Sol Kramer, formerly of New City, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at age 95. Sol was born in New York City on August 20, 1918 to the late Jacob and Jennie Kramer, immigrants who arrived to safe haven in the United States, from the Ukraine, before the First World War. Sol was the President of NY Spool Corp., in the Bronx, NY, industrial packaging manufacturer begun in 1935. A lifelong supporter of the public schools, he and his wife of 44 years Beatrice (who predeceased Sol in 1984) raised four children in the Bronx before moving to Rockland County in 1966. While Beatrice served as PTA president for several of their children's schools, Sol served multiple terms on the Local School Board in the Bronx. He was also a longtime member of the New City Jewish Center, and was an active participant in the Rockland County United Jewish Appeal, as well as a member of the Israel Bonds Prime Minister's Club. Sol is survived by his cherished children Lois (Leonard) Applebaum, Barry (Donna), Gerald (Eva) and Stanley (Dorit) Kramer, 12 adoring grandchildren and 8 loving great-grandchildren. A private funeral service will be held at Congregation Sons of Israel. Arrangements are being handled by Hellman Memorial Chapels. Donations in Sol's memory may be made to the Jewish Federation of Rockland County, West Nyack, NY or the Jewish Home at Rockleigh in Rockleigh, NJ.
