Philip Zelazo passed away on August 11, 2014, at 6:28am in his home. He was 88 years old. He was a strong, proud man who chose to die with as much dignity as he lived his life.
A certified hustler, He learned to support his mother and sister in Poland as soon as he was able. After escaping Sokoly, the family became very prosperous in Mexico, operating a restaurant/boarding house and repairing recycled burlap sacks for hay bales.
He was a Sargaent in charge of training newly enlisted men in the Mexican Army during World War II. After receiving an honorable discharge, the family moved to Brooklyn in 1947. He married his loving wife, Shanie, in 1953. They spent 50 years together before she died in 2003, living the American dream. Phil is survived by his son, Alan, Alan's wife, Dolores, grandchildren Jonathan and Stephanie, and a plethora of family and friends who hold him in the highest regard.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 12, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at Hellman Memorial Chapels, 15 State Street, Spring Valley, NY. Interment to follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made in Phil's memory to Jewish National Fund or United Hospice of Rockland.
