Barbara Joan Stefanik (nee Sheehan), a lifelong Yonkers resident, died on Friday August 15, 2014 at St. John's Riverside Hospital. She was 82 years old. She was born on May 23, 1932 to Timothy and Mary Deyorio Sheehan in Yonkers where she was raised and educated, graduating from Commerce High School. She then attended Mercy College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She went on to receive a Masters Degree from Mercy College and a second Masters Degree from Long Island University. Mrs. Stefanik was a principal at St. Ursula's Special Education School in Mt. Vernon for fifteen years until her retirement in 2005. She enjoyed cooking and artistic painting. As a child, she was a solo dancer for the Muriel Hausner Dance Group where she entertained our troops during World War II. On May 17, 1953, she married her loving husband, Vincent E. Stefanik in St. Joseph's Church in Yonkers. Mr. Stefanik survives and lives in Yonkers. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a sister, Patricia Sheehan of Andes, N.Y. and a brother, Arthur Sheehan of Arlington, TX. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved son, David Mark Stefanik who died in 1976. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Tuesday 6-9 pm and Wednesday 2-4 & 6-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Thursday August 21st at 11 am.
